Type IV devices are not worn but are designed to be thrown to a person in the water. They include cushions, ring buoys, and horseshoe buoys and are meant to be used in calm conditions with immediate assistance nearby.

This is a great backup safety device for all boats. While not ideal for children alone, it complements wearable life jackets by adding another layer of emergency preparedness.
